Challenge yourself to complete FIVE fangtastic challenges over the summer and you could win one of three spooktacular prize packs!

There will be also runner up and spot prizes. Books can include print and eBooks/eAudiobooks and must be borrowed or downloaded from Waimakariri Libraries and issued on your own library card.

1st December 2023 - 26 January 2024

There are three categories:

Tamariki/Children

Rangatahi/Teen

Adults (18+ years)

HOW IT WORKS

  1. Pick up a challenge booklet at any Waimakariri Library from December 1st 2023.
  2. Complete a minimum of five challenges all up.
  3. Hand in the completed booklet to a member of staff by 26  January 2023 to go into the draw.
  4. When you pick up a booklet for your child, don't forget to pick up a booklet for you too, to participate in the Summer Reading Challenge. Taking part in this challenge is great modelling for your child and will encourage them to complete the challenge.

Storybox Library allows storytime to be anytime! Watch and listen to some of your favourite stories being read by Australian and New Zealand storytellers! Reading aloud to children, in particular by diverse and engaging storytellers, greatly improves language and literacy skills, especially in the early years of a child’s development.

eMagazines and eComics

Libby provides access to popular magazines and now also has a great range of eComics which are yours to download and keep. Libby also provides access to more eBooks and eAudiobooks.

Watch Movies and Episodes

Kanopy has over 10,000 titles and with new content added monthly there is something here for everyone! Kanopy Kids provides specific content for children with unlimited access to a diverse selection of educational and entertaining content - from movies, TV series, animated storybooks, to live action, and animated favourites!

eResources

New Zealand Geographic has awesome articles, documentaries and information about the people, places and wildlife of New Zealand and surrounding areas, like Antarctica.

Kids eLibrary is a great place to start looking for ideas to complete challenges, particularly for the Primary age group.

Kids Reading has some excellent recommendations for a variety of genres and reading levels.
