Nicki reviewed this month: The Quiet People by Paul Cleave
The Quiet People by Paul Cleave
I’ve been as slow as a snail with a limp in discovering Paul Cleave. A New Zealand author (from Christchurch!) with a huge international following. And as we know, books should never be judged by their covers, nor authors by their looks. But if we ever manage to get Paul Cleave in for an author’s evening we’ll need to find a bigger venue. (Snails won’t fare well in the stampede.)
The book :
From the onset this is a compelling story packed with intrigue. A successful couple living a polished life in a leafy suburb, get embroiled in media muck when their young son vanishes in the middle of the night. Speculation around a plot to kidnap their own son surrounds the parents, leading to a division. But is this part of the ploy? Paul does a convincing job of creating confusion and suspense which will have you developing highly tuned skills in speed reading.
A word of warning, this story does get a bit bloodcurdling. (Those with sensitivities may need to read with their eyes closed.) You may be a little taken aback. If Paul’s looks don’t get your heart racing, his writing will.
