Borrowing

You can borrow up to 30 items for up to three weeks each on your membership card, with the option to renew for a further three weeks in most cases.

The date each item is due can be found on the issue slip printout. If we have your email address, you will get an email reminder three days before items are due back. We have a rental collection of bestsellers - if you want to read the latest bestseller without having to wait.

We’ve removed fees off magazines and all DVD's as well as CD's.

You can check your record, renew an item or place a hold online. You will need your library card number and PIN. If you haven't already selected a PIN for your card, phone or email the library and we can set one up for you. You can change your PIN at any time by going to Log into My Account.

Tip: Read how to autosave your library card number and PIN on your computer.

Renew

You can renew most items on the library self-issue kiosks or online using your library card and PIN. You can renew once, by the due date, provided there are no reserves on item. To renew online:

Accessing your record online

  • Click on My Account from the catalogue.
  • Enter your library card number and PIN and click on Log in.

Forgotten your PIN number? Ask at your library or reset online - go to the catalogue, select Login, then forgot PIN.

You can check how many items you have borrowed and when they are due back, renew an item or change when and where you want to pick up a hold.

Get Yourself a Library Username

Instead of trying to remember a library card number something like 28252114303441 you can create a username such as CRAZYCATLADY24!

This username, along with your PIN, can be used to access our website, catalogue, the Waimakariri Library app, and EVEN in place of your library card on the kiosk to borrow books.

To set up a username just pop in to one of your local libraries and ask one of our helpful staff to assist you.

Reset your forgotten PIN

Forgot your PIN or never knew you had one? You can now reset a forgotten PIN number online - go to the catalogue, select Login, then forgot PIN.

The PIN is an essential element for accessing online resources. For licensing reasons, users are required to enter their library card and PIN number when accessing eBooks, newspapers, magazines and database material. In the past, it was necessary to visit or email the library to recover a forgotten PIN but this can now be done by the user on the spot. An email will be generated with a link that allows them to change their PIN.

With a library and PIN number customers can also log-in to their own library account to update details, renew items, view their borrowing history and see the status of items on Hold.

Interloans

We may also be able to get that book you want from another library. There is a charge for this. Ask at the counter for details.

Library purchase suggestions

You can request that we buy a book, or any other item, for others to enjoy also, using our contact form. All suggestions welcome.
