Librarians from the Waimakariri Libraries team can visit your school or preschool by arrangement, or bring your students into the library. Depending on the age level, we could run a storytime session, or booktalk to extend and inspire your students’ knowledge of books and reading. The library also has a range of high-quality, online resources available for students of all ages which we are happy to demonstrate.

To assist teachers, Waimakariri Libraries have a feast of resources available to help teachers feed students who are hungry for knowledge. We have prepared some lesson plans, how-to guides and activity sheets for you to download and use with your class.

• Storytime with StoryBox Library (StoryBox Library instructions)
  StoryBox connects children with literature through the complementary medium of film providing a vibrant, interactive experience via a diverse range of storytellers.
  Each story has an Activity Time lesson, perfect for primary school aged children. Students can access stories and activities based on filterable topics, such as ANZAC, award winners, community, environment, siblings.
• eAudiobooks and eBooks from BorrowBox (BorrowBox Primary - Borrowbox Secondary) Perhaps the fastest growing and most popular e-resource is BorrowBox, your library in one app, where you can access e-books, and e-audio books free from your library using the BorrowBox app.
• eComics from Libby (Libby app instructions)
  We have a sweet selection of eComics, sprinkled with all your favourites from Marvel, Disney, Dark Horse and more. Waimakariri Libraries have hundreds of eComics available through Overdrive, with a great range that you can access for free,  Magazines can be issued for 21 days, then will automatically be returned from your account with the option to renew issues before they go, through the Libby app.

• AnyQuestions/ManyAnswers (AnyQuestions/ManyAnswers Guide)
  AnyQuestions offers online help to assist New Zealand students with their inquiries. It aims to teach students important information literacy skills so they can find the information for themselves. Librarians work with students to unpack their questions, uncovering what their real need is before guiding them to quality online resources. The other side of the service is called Many Answers. This website has answers to many of the subjects covered in the school curriculum. Librarians gather resources on a topic and put them together to act as a guide to find information and resources on that topic. This makes is easier for the students to find useful information and resources on topics without giving them the answers.
• Mango Languages (Mango Guide)
  Waimakariri Libraries gives you access to over 70 languages that can be learnt at your own pace. An easy, fun, and effective way to learn. This teaches languages through relevant and topical dialogue using the four key components – vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and culture.
