Celebrate World Kindness Day 13th November

Story Box Library Activity of the Month: November

Kind in white writing with a green background and images of animals

From the tiniest beetle to the most majestic whale, every creature on Earth is a marvel, deserving of awe and compassion. This beautiful story is a unique celebration of living things of many kinds - and the kindness we can show them as we wander through the world.

Celebrate World Kindness Day, 13 November, with this activity available from Story Box Library linked to the story: Kind: A Call to Care for Every Creature, a stunning and lyrical masterpiece from exciting Australian talent, Jess McGeachin. Read by Leah Vandenberg, Published by: Allen & Unwin

Activity: Guess the creature

What you need:

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Coloured markers (optional)

1. Choose one creature from the story and draw a picture of it (be sure not to tell anyone which one you have chosen) There is a link below with a template for the picture.

2. Can you think of some clues to describe your creature?

Think about...

  • its size, what it is covered in. Does it have any special features?
  • does it fly, slither, swim, waddle, climb etc?
  • what the creature looks like
  • how the creature moves
  • where it might be found
  • any interesting behaviours the creature might have.

The picture template, and further instructions for the Guess the creature activity can be found here.
