Waimakariri Libraries are proud to support Mental Health Awareness Week. We're running events from 6 October – 17 October  to top up our hapori | community's mental health:

Understanding and Healing Trauma with Michael Hempseed
Join Michael as he discusses the latest scientific research on trauma, trauma-informed care and the latest techniques to treat it. Our country has been through a lot the last few years, with earthquakes, covid and much more. Many people have been badly affected by these events. The good news is that treatment for trauma is getting better and better, there is now real hope for people who struggle with this.

·        What does the latest scientific research tell us about how trauma affects the body and the mind?

·        What does trauma informed care really mean?

·        Why do people experience sensory problems?

·        What are some of the latest techniques to treat trauma?

Michael Hempseed is the author of Being A True Hero: Understanding and Preventing Suicide in Your Community and co-author of Calming Your Child. Michael, is a very busy professional speaker, delivering between 150-200 talks every year. He has spoken to Fonterra, NZ Post, Fire and Emergency NZ and many others. Michael gained an honours degree in Psychology from the University of Canterbury in 2008. In 2016 he spoke at TEDx.

Zentangle
Wind down your week with a calm session of Zentangle pattern drawing.
A session introducing the drawing technique of the Zentangle Method, and pattern drawing technique which uses easy to learn techniques and simple strokes to slowly build up beautiful small artworks. A wonderful wind down and calm session at the end of your week. Anything is possible.... One stroke at a time.
