This month Sarah and Ciaran our movie experts reviewed: Beast
This movie is available on DVD click here for availability.
Sarah:
Starring Idris Elba, Beast tells the story of a family who become stranded in a game reserve in South Africa, and who are then stalked by a rogue lion. Although the lion itself is clearly not a real lion, the great acting and scenery go some distance to making up for the not very convincing CGI. If you are in the mood for an entertaining action movie, with a simple storyline and not too much violence, this could be a good movie for you.
3.5 stars.
Ciaran:
Human vs. nature, the classic survival genre film. That’s what I expected when watching this feature; and a lot of that is very present through the conflict with the lion. However, there is a remarkable story of a family recovering from grief here that surprised me. Watching the Samuels family reconnect with the roots of their ex-wife, or their mother, made this movie stand apart from your usual blockbuster survival fare.
