“The Light Behind the Window”

By Lucinda Riley

As yet, I haven’t bought into The Seven Sisters series by the late Lucinda Riley.  I’m not saying that it won’t happen, it just hasn’t happened yet…

However, that said, I have listened to two of her stand-alone titles “The Olive Tree” and latterly “The Light Behind the Window”.   This is the novel I will review.

I absolutely loved this story.  It is written in a format that I enjoy, swinging between two eras, 1943 and the late nineties that Lucinda calls the ‘present’.  It has mystery, intrigue, pain, romance, war, art and family drama. The biggest mystery of all is not revealed until the end of the book.

The story is both German and French and what I love particularly about talking books is that you get drawn into the beautiful language, names and accents.  The words are said properly, and it can transport you to another world.

There are siblings, enemies, lovers, adventure, jealousy, deception and the cruelty of war. It makes you cringe; it makes you cry; it even makes you hold your breath.  If I had read the book, I would have been unable to put it down.

I hope that you listen to or read this great story.  It will make great holiday reading or listening.  I am going to look for another of her novels for sure.
