Leo reviews: 100 Birds Written & Illustrated by Michael Whaite
“Black bird, quack bird, riding on a back bird, puffed bird, stuffed bird, doesn’t do a lot.”
From the creator of 100 Dogs comes 100 Birds, a cheerful, sing-song rhyming book full of real birds, not so real names, but oh-so real laughs! You’ll get to meet 100 brilliant feathered friends and get a glimpse into each of their special talents, attributes, or just plain silly situations!
There is something you should know about me. I’m obsessed with birds. Anything to do with birds. The first time I went to Japan I walked out of the airport and quickly began taking pictures of the local pigeons (much to my travel companion’s embarrassment)! So of course I’m going to pick up this book just on title alone. Despite not having the ‘factual’ names of the differing species, it does an amazing job of accurately depicting them. Yes, Puffin’s are not named, but they are an “Island bird, nesting on the rocks”, or the Egyptian plover as the “Croc bid, cleaning up a mouth”. Each bird is accurately drawn and invites children to see the vast differences and talents in the beautiful world of our lovely modern dinos!
