If you are feeling brighter than a highlighter and think you should tone it down before you’re suspected of taking illicit substances, then this could be the book for you.  Not to say this is a depressing read, but it certainly has a creepy vibe with pretty dark undertones. In saying that you’ll find it compulsively readable, brimming with twists and intrigue.

New Zealand author Nikki Crutchley has set the story in a remote coastal paradise overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  This is the home of 18-year-old Ana and her family, where they “exist as one, with nature, earth and ocean.” But their private idyll hides violent secrets and when an outsider arrives Ana is forced to make a choice which will ultimately destroy her sanctuary – and her family.

Exploring motivations behind inexplicable behaviours this is an atmospheric story with looming tension.  As the layers of the plot unfold you’ll have Ana’s heart in your hands as she makes a terrifyingly momentous decision.
