Sarah:

Although this movie is not based on a true story, it feels like it definitely could be.  The main character Daniel Blake has fallen on difficult times, despite a lifetime of hard work, and is battling the UK government for the right to a pension. Directed by Ken Loach, his hardship and the stories of others he connects with along the way are told in a very realistic way. Although the ending is sad, the support people offer each other along the way is the silver lining in this movie.

Ciaran:

In a world where our daily conversation holds the phrase ‘cost of living’ pretty frequently, this 2016 British drama feels more relevant now than ever. This movie feels drained of colour at times, a deliberate albeit gloomy visual choice that punches home the tragedy at hand. This is a film that feels very grounded, very human. But it’s human in all the ugly ways and the good. An incredibly important watch.
