This month Sarah and Ciaran our movie experts reviewed: Minions: the Rise of Gru
The movies is available on DVD please check our catalogue.
Sarah:
Set in the 1970s when Gru is 12 years old and trying to join a gang of super-villains, this is a prequel to the minions’ movies. The minions’ madcap antics are predictably endearing, and the storyline is fun and engaging, but it is the 70’s soundtrack and visually delightful depiction of San Francisco and other American locations which really made this one stand out for me. A great kids movie adults can also enjoy.
4.5 stars.
Ciaran:
It has taken a long time for me to fall in love with a Despicable Me film as much as the first one. But Minions: Rise of Gru is a hilarious and endearing entry to the series. Watching Gru befriend and shelter the Minions is such a nice prequel to how he becomes the supervillain that adopts his three daughters later in life. Plus, this film has a cool James Bond parody with a song entirely performed in Minionese. Just brilliant.
