Sarah:

Not an easy or uplifting watch, but still a rewarding one. Although the themes are very sad, the acting is great – Brendan Fraser won Best Actor for this movie, and the other actors are also very good – Sadie Sink was the standout performance for me. Although the action takes place almost completely in one room, I felt like I had been on a bit of a journey with these characters by the end, and the score added intensity and emotional depth to the story.

4 stars.

Ciaran:

This is a film that has been lauded as the ‘comeback vehicle’ for Brendan Fraser, and it’s easy to see why. This is a phenomenal character piece about the impact of grief, estranged families, the power of writing and how we treat one another. Though Fraser leads this film in a manner that is entirely transformative it would be wrong to call this anything but an ensemble piece. Like a well-rehearsed play, all parts are vital and every player stands out. I echo Sarah’s sentiments about Sadie Sink but also highly praise Hong Chau and Samantha Morton too.

4.5 stars.
