The Waimakariri Libraries Team is thrilled to be celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.
Te Reo Māori has been an official language of New Zealand since 1987, and Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori has been celebrated in New Zealand since 1975, in an effort to raise awareness of the language, and get New Zealanders to embrace Te Reo Māori and use it more.
Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) from Monday 14 September 2024 and runs through to Sunday 21 September 2024.
The team has been working hard to create a celebration of this special language for everyone in our hapori (community).
In collaboration with our preschool programmes, and the Waimakariri District Council Waiata Group, we will be celebrating by hosting multiple Kapa Haka groups in the library.
