About our interloan service at Waimakariri Libraries

Items that can be interloaned

You can request the following materials via our interloan service:

  • Books
  • Articles
  • Conference proceedings
  • Published government reports
  • Microfilms
  • New Zealand theses and dissertations
  • CDs and DVDs.

We will do our best to find what you need but can’t  always guarantee that we’ll be able to supply the item you requested. We will contact you by email or phone if we can’t find the item you have requested.

Information we need for your interloan request

When requesting books, please provide as much information as possible, including:

  • Title and author's name
  • Publisher and date of publication (if known)
  • If you require a particular edition.

When requesting articles, please provide as much information as possible, including:

  • Title of article and author
  • Title of journal/magazine
  • Date of issue and issue number (if possible).

Interloan prices and payment

The standard fee for a loan or copy from a New Zealand library is $7. However, charges can vary depending on what you need.

Picking up or using your interloan item

We will let you know when your interloan item has arrived at the library you selected (Rangiora, Kaiapoi or Oxford). If you requested an article or book chapter, we will email it to you or provide you with a copy to pick up at your preferred location.

Some items can only be used in a library, including theses, microfilm, fragile or rare items. If this is the case, we will let you know.

Loan periods for interloan items

The lending library determines the loan period, in generally, the loan periods are usually three weeks or more.

The return date will be clearly marked on the interloan slip within the item.

Interloans can usually be renewed at least once, subject to recall by the lending library.We will let you know if the item can’t be renewed.

There is no charge for interloan renewals at the moment.
