Craft Cutter

The Brother SDX1250 ScanNCut allows you to make detailed shapes and designs come to life with its precise cutting technology. From card, vinyl, and even fabrics, you can make personalised greeting cards, bookmarks, heat-transfer stickers and much more.

Note: If you were previously inducted on the Cricut and would like a hand getting started with the Brother, contact us at wmkmakerspace@wmk.govt.nz to book in some time with one of our team!

How to use our craft cutter

Tinker Zone runs using a Traffic Light system. The Brother ScanNCut is a Yellow Tech, which means that you will need to attend an induction before having access to the tech. These inductions cover the basics and important safety information about the machines.

Once you’re inducted in, we will stamp your Tinker Card. You can present your card to a friendly librarian and they will give you the craft cutter kit. The kit includes all the basics you need to get your project started. Just bring your own material!

There are several blades/attachments you can use depending on your project. Below are the blades that we currently hold:

Standard Auto Blade— used for both fabric and paper materials with thickness ranging from 0.1 to 3mm depending on material.

Vinyl Auto Blade — used for vinyl, stencil, and other heat-transfer material, this is a delicate blade able to cut small and thin shapes. Avoid cutting thicker materials.

Rotary blade — used for fabric materials, with rounded and bigger designs. Avoid using on intricate designs.

Grab a Tinker Zone Card

To use Yellow Tech, you will need a Tinker Zone card. This card serves as a quick guide reference confirming that you have completed an induction and have the basic knowledge needed to function and safety to operate the ScanNCut.

Staff will register your name and a phone number to your new card and show you how to book in for any inductions if you are interested.

Children should have their own card, and anyone under 16 years old must be registered by parent or guardian.
