Running Every Day:

Mystery Trail – Calling all young sleuths! Follow the clues scattered among the shelves and discover our superhero’s name.
LEGO Build – Pop into the library anytime over the holidays and play with LEGO. Build, imagine, and create your own heroic additions to our super-powered world.
Comic Plus Reading Competition – Ready to roll the dice on your reading adventure? Navigate your way around our action‑packed comic reading board game! Will you grab a physical comic from the shelves or dive into Comics Plus (eLibrary app)? Choose your path, power up with our events, and see how far you can go!

Comic Mania - April School Holidays Events: 

Be a Local Hero and Save Seeds - Seed Saving Workshops
Waimakariri Libraries are launching revamped seed libraries in all three libraries for our community to borrow, grow, and return seeds to the collection. To celebrate the relaunch, we are hosting Seed Saving Workshops to learn from local gardening and community groups, to gain knowledge about seed saving, and seed raising. The libraries are also launching a ‘Seed Guardians’ role for children and youth as an approved activity for the Children’s University. Drop in and become a local hero and grow with us at the following times and locations:

Zine-Making Basics
Learn all the fundamentals of zines and explore ways to take it further. All materials provided, just bring yourself or come with friends. A zine (from the word magazine) is a self-published, home-made booklet which can be about anything and everything. There are no rules for zines, just an outlet for creative expression. Suitable for ages 12+  Limited spaces — bookings required.

Superpower Drive-in Movie Night
Bring your own box to create a super vehicle for our drive-in movie night. Starting at 4:00pm, we’ll supply craft materials to decorate your box and then park up to watch the mightiest pups from 5:00pm. The movie is G Rated.

Comic Mania
POW! BAM! ZAP! Join us for our very own Comic Mania extravaganza! Enjoy free face painting, a free photo booth, and crafty stations—including decorating your own mug with comic strips! Discover epic reading recommendations, and don’t miss the best‑dressed prize and the Comics Plus Reading Competition winner announcement at 3pm

From Sketch to Story: Creating Characters That Come to Life
Ever wondered how comic book characters are born?
Join illustrator Sarah Grieg and writer Heather McQuillan to create your own unique comic character and build an original story around them. By the end of the session, you’ll have an illustrated mini-story and the skills to keep creating long after the workshop ends.
$10.00 per attendee, bookings required.

Arachnid Superhero Movie Night
Take part in our web obstacle course, make your own superhero mask and watch a film containing a very friendly teenage superhero. The film is M Rated due violence.  Activities start at 4:30pm with the movie starting at 5:00pm. Bookings required.
